Description	:	John was born April 13, 1920 in Lorimor, Iowa, the son of Clark Cecil and Pearl Elaine (Faun) Grandfield. He was a 1937 graduate of the Lorimor High School. His marriage to Louise Helen Swan took place on June 6, 1941 in Grant City, Missouri and to this union 6 children were born. John and Helen lived and farmed in the Lorimor area for over twenty years. The family moved to the Dayton area for eight years in 1966, followed by a move to Winterset where they lived for thirty years. John was employed by the Circle B in... Read More	John was born April 13, 1920 in Lorimor, Iowa, the son of Clark Cecil and Pearl Elaine (Faun) Grandfield. He was a 1937 graduate of the Lorimor High School. His marriage to Louise Helen Swan took place on June 6, 1941 in Grant City, Missouri and to this union 6 children were born. John and Helen lived and farmed in the Lorimor area for over twenty years. The family moved to the Dayton area for eight years in 1966, followed by a move to Winterset where they lived for thirty years. John was employed by the Circle B in Winterset and began building farm fence part-time until 1985 when he turned 65. In his retirement, he continued fence building fulltime in the hills of Madison and Union Counties, until age 79, averaging 15-17 miles a summer. John & Helen moved from Winterset to Pomeroy in 2001 and then to Dayton in 2004. John was a member of the United Methodist Church of Lorimor. John learned many skills in the Lorimor New Hope Boosters 4-H club and received several honors for cattle showing and judging and also served as leader of that club for ten years. He was a member of the Lorimor School Board for a few terms. Most of all, John enjoyed his family, especially, time with the grandchildren and building things for them. John died Sunday, March 25, 2007, at the Grandview Care Center in Dayton. He was 86. John is survived by 4 sons, John C. (Mary) Grandfield of Antioch, IL; James C. (Sylvia) Grandfield of Concord, NH; Jack C. Grandfield of Lehigh, IA; Daniel F. (Mary Jo) Grandfield of Lehigh, IA; 1 daughter, Sheryl (Jim) Ainslie of Dayton; 4 brothers, Allen Lee (Connie) Grandfield of Chicago, IL; Robert (Beverly) Grandfield of St. Charles; David (Pat) Grandfield of Lorimor; Glen (Lana) Grandfield of Winterset; 11 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, a son Rodney M. Grandfield; a sister, Mary Augusta and a brother, James Faun Grandfield. ∼John (Mitchell) Grandfield, 86, of Dayton, Iowa and formerly of Winterset, died Sunday, March 25, 2007, at the Grandview Care Center in Dayton. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Thursday, March 29, 2007 at the United Methodist Church in Lorimor, Iowa. A visitation will be held from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 28, 2007 at Ochiltree Funeral Service & Aftercare, where the family will be present to receive friends 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Burial of the cremated remains will be at 1:00 p.m., Friday, March 30, 2007 in the Lorimor Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to the family to use at their discretion.
