Description	:	There passed from our midst, one of Madoc Township's oldest citizens, when the late John Moorcroft was called to his eternal rest on May 5th, 1916 at the advanced age of 97 years, thus having had nearly a century of changing experience standing to his record. Read More	There passed from our midst, one of Madoc Township's oldest citizens, when the late John Moorcroft was called to his eternal rest on May 5th, 1916 at the advanced age of 97 years, thus having had nearly a century of changing experience standing to his record. He was born in County Antrim, Ireland, on June 2nd, 1819 and while there became a Staunch Member of the Presbyterian Church at Randalstown. When he attained the age of thirty, he was married and about a year later, he decided to take advantage of the opportunities in the new land of Canada, and came out, arriving in Madoc in July 1850, and finally made their home in the township, where he resided until the time of his death on the old homestead. After settling in Canada, he was brought into touch with Methodism and desiring to make the best of the religious opportunities that were open to him, he joined the Methodist Church and continued a faithful member thereof for about sixty years. During that time, he rendered much service to the church, proving himself to be a faithful worker and a man true to his convictions and was not afraid to speak in the interest of the Master's work. He was also a man of wonderful physical ability, which enabled him to be about until after his eightieth year. However, in 1902, his wife was called to her long and peaceful home. This loss was very keenly felt by him and nearly ever since he, through age and infirmity, has been confined to his home for a period of thirteen years. Much of this time he spent in reading, particularly his Bible. Though toward the last his memory was much impaired, yet he did not forget the great truths of the Gospel nor the God, he had served during the time of his manhood. After a few weeks of extreme weakness, during which time he was confined to bed, he was called to his eternal reward. He leaves to mourn his loss, one daughter, Mrs. Charles Sager, Queensborough; two sons, William James Moorcroft, on the homestead and Thomas J. Moorcroft of Hazzards; also one sister, Mrs. William Moore (Sarah) who is now staying with Mrs. C. A. Sager, whos home is in Boston. He had 24 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
