Nashua Telegraph Apr 24 1909 John Moran, for years the gate tender at the Main street crossing of the W.N & P. division of the Boston & Maine, was called suddenly from this life while on duty there Friday afrernoon. He had just let down the gates when he was seized with a dizzy feeling and fell to the ground. His condition was noticed by some men who were in the neighborhood at the time and he was quickly carried into the little shanty at the side of the tracks. There he was seated in a chair where he soon expired. Death was due to heart failure. Dr. Francis S. Allen, who was passing, was the first to reach the dying man. He called a driver of a Nashua Coal company's team and then placed him tenderly in his armchair. Meanwhile, they had sent for Dr. A.W.Shea. The deceased was born in Ireland about 60 years ago. He came to this country when he was about 30 years old and had been a resident of Nashua since that time. For 25 years he had been an employe of the Boston & Maine railroad. He leaves a wife, one daughter, Mrs. Michael Gilmore, five grandchildren, Lillian, John, Marguerite, Mathilda, and Michael Gilmore, and four brothers in Ireland, Michael Thomas, Patrick and James Moran. He leaves nephews and nieces in this city, in Cambridge, Mass., and in Bridgeport, Conn. Mr. Moran had been for years an energetic and popular member of Division 2, A.O.H. He was a constant attendant at the Church of the Immaculate Conception. The funeral arrangements are in the hands of Patrick Barry & Son, undertakers. High mass of requiem will be celebrated in the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Monday morning at 9:30 o'clock.
