Description	:	John Motycka a farmer living 6 miles SW of here, committed suicide at his home Wednesday by shooting himself through the heart with an army musket. He had been in poor health about a year and at times became very despondent and it is thought that while suffering from one of these spells, he was tempted to take his own life. He had been in poor health about a year and at times became very despondent and it is thought that while suffering from one of these spells, he was tempted to take his own life. At the time of the tragedy, his wife and three sons were working in the harvest field and when they returned found the dead body on the floor in a pool of blood. Word was sent out and Judge Ziegler wired the news to Sheriff Gardner at Davenport and Deputy Sheriff Gardner came down on the late train. The next morning, accompanied by Judge Ziegler, they started for the scene of the tragedy and found the body where it had fallen the day before; it was decided by the sheriff that it was unnecessary to proceed further and Undertaker Stone was ordered to take charge of the body which he prepared for burial and the remains were laid to rest in the new cemetery south of town. Deceased was 40 years of age and leaves a wife and five children.
