January 1, 1914 John Murphy The subject of this sketch was born in Queen County Ireland, November 20, 1837, and died at his home northwest of Osceola December 28, 1913, at the age of 76 years, 1 month and 8 days. He came to Pennsylvania in 1854 and in 1859 settled in Logan County, Illinois, where he spent ten years. He then moved to Champaign. In 1879 he was married to Miss Elizabeth Walsh. He came to Pennsylvania in 1854 and in 1859 settled in Logan County, Illinois, where he spent ten years. He then moved to Champaign. In 1879 he was married to Miss Elizabeth Walsh. To this union were born six children, two, Mabel and Mae, having preceded him. One daughter Effie, and two sons, Edward and John, are at home and Mrs. A. L. Deitrick lives near the parental home. In 1893 Mr. Murphy moved with his family to this county where he has spent the latter part of his life. The funeral services were held at the Fremont Church Tuesday morning at 10 o'clock, the services being conducted by Rev. R. S. Tague of Attica, assisted by the local pastor, J. L. Wallace, and the body was laid to rest in the Fremont cemetery. Those from a distance who were present at the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. E. T. Walsh and daughter, Marguerite (Margaret) and David Walsh all of Rantoul, Ill., Mr. and Mrs. William Saddoris of Swea City, Iowa, and Mr. and Mrs. Philip McCann of Groveland.
