Description	:	John Nelson Mitten, son of ALberta A. and Mary R. Mitten was born in Polk township, Shelby County, Iowa on March 12, 1882 and after an illness of several months, died in the Myrtue Memorial hospital, Saturday June 25, 1955 at the age of 73 years, 3 months and 13 days. December 7, 1904 he was married to Jennie M. Waldo and to this union four children were born; Clayton and Waldo of Kirkman, Iowa and Leland of Springfield, Mo. and Floyd, minister at Concord, California. Waldo and to this union four children were born; Clayton and Waldo of Kirkman, Iowa and Leland of Springfield, Mo. and Floyd, minister at Concord, California. He was baptized by Elder Nelson Hon at the age of 19, uniting at the time with the Redline Church of Christ. Except for a few months in Audubon County his entire home life was in Shelby County and in the community of Redline until moving to Harlan in 1937. He served as deacon of the Redline church but since moving from the country he has been associated with the Harlan Church of Christ. Surviving are his wife, the four sons; two sister, Mrs Pararen Fiscus of Kirkman, Iowa and Mrs Chester Dahlof of Harlan, Iowa. eleven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted at the Pauley funeral home at 2:30 p.m. Monday, June 27, 1955. Bro. Horace Hinds and Bro. Roy Brinker officiated. Pallbearers were Fred Stock, Merlin Mitten, Leonard Fiscus, William Phelps, Javaine Mitten and Virgil Christensen. Burial was in the Harlan cemetery.
