Description	:	John Nelson Purington, 41, of 52 Avery Brook Rd., died quietly May 30 at Baystate Franklin Medical Center in Greenfield in the presence of family and close friends. He was born in Montague, Sept. 22, 1967, the son of Roger and Roberta (Herzig) Purington. He grew up in Colrain before moving to Heath in 1988. He graduated from the Franklin County Technical School Carpentry shop in 1986. He had worked for A.R.Sandri, Inc. since the age of 15. He was an avid fan of demolition derbies and NASCAR racing. He was born in Montague, Sept. 22, 1967, the son of Roger and Roberta (Herzig) Purington. He grew up in Colrain before moving to Heath in 1988. He graduated from the Franklin County Technical School Carpentry shop in 1986. He had worked for A.R.Sandri, Inc. since the age of 15. He was an avid fan of demolition derbies and NASCAR racing. Survivors besides his parents of Heath include three sisters: Darlene Corbeil and husband, Joe, of Shelburne Falls, Connie Sherman and husband, Dohn, of Rowe, Barbara Dyer and husband, David, of Buckland. He leaves two brothers, Roger Jr. and wife, Nancy, of Colrain, Kevin Sr. and partner, Ellie Richardson, of Charlemont; 15 nieces and nephews and one great-niece. He also leaves his beloved dog, Spottie Roo. The family thanks John McCann, M.D. and the oncology staff at Baystate Franklin Medical Center, Richard McGinn, M.D., Alan McClelland, M.D., of Greenfield, Marc Ernstoff, M.D. of Darmouth-Hitchcock Hospital in Lebanon, N.H. and Hospice of Franklin County. Funeral services were June 2 at Smith-Kelleher Funeral Home in Shelburne Falls with burial in West Branch Cemetery in Colrain. In lieu of flowers, donations in John Purington's memory may be made to the John N. Purington Scholarship Fund, in care of Mohawk Trail Regional School, Ashfield Road, Shelburne Falls, MA 01370 or to Hospice of Franklin County, 329 Chapman St., Greenfield, MA 01301.
