Description	:	John Newton Andrew, son of James and Cyrene (Eads) Andrew, was born in Des Moines County Iowa, May 29, 1852, and died at his home in Grand River Township, Decatur County, Iowa, July 4, 1934, aged 82 years, 1 month and 5 days. He was the seventh child of a family of 12 children. Of this family two brothers and one sister survive. Read More	John Newton Andrew, son of James and Cyrene (Eads) Andrew, was born in Des Moines County Iowa, May 29, 1852, and died at his home in Grand River Township, Decatur County, Iowa, July 4, 1934, aged 82 years, 1 month and 5 days. He was the seventh child of a family of 12 children. Of this family two brothers and one sister survive. At the age of three years, with his parents, he moved to Macoupin County, Ill. where he grew to manhood. At 16 years of age he was converted and united with the Brethren church. On October 13, 1874 he left his parental home with Elk Creek as his destination. May 9, 1875 he was united in marriage to Evaline Aldora Akers. The ceremony was performed by Squire W. A. Graysen at the home of her parents near Elk Chapel. She preceded him in death September 13, 1902. To this union 12 children were born, Jesse E., Cora L., and Velva also preceding him. Those left to mourn his departure are: Allen S., Lewis M., Harry A., Lyman J., and Paul S., all of Grand River, Iowa: Arthur O., of Leon, Iowa: Vesta C. Thompson, Caldwell, Idaho: Verna E. Huff, of Knoxville, Iowa: Grace M. Brown, of Lamoni, Iowa: and 38 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. July 21, 1924 he was married to Mrs. Mary D. Lewis of Shenandoah, Iowa, who passed away at Bethany, Mo., December 8, 1929. He had been a resident of Grand River township for 60 years with the exception of three years which he spent in Shenandoah, Iowa. He was one of the pioneers of Elk Creek, having come here when the country was new, and endured many hardships. Though his neighbors were few they soon found he was a man of his word and many positions of trust were entrusted to him. His friends were numbered by his acquaintances. The pallbearers were Charles Burchett, Deasle Akers, Orin Stanley, Dwight Akers, Robert Noble, and Homer Hembry. Funeral services were held from Elk Chapel July 6 1934, conducted by Rev. Miles Taber. Burial was in the Elk cemetery.
