Description	:	Funeral services for John O. Engh were held at 2 p.m. Friday, May 30, 1980 at St. John's Lutheran Church, Kanawha, Iowa. Rev. William G. Perkins officiated at the service. Organist was Mrs. Edward Engstrom and soloist was Marvin Engh who sang "Does Jesus Care" accompanied by Mrs. Billy DeKruyff. Casket bearers were Raymond Burras, Lawrence Espe, Glenn Russell, Albert Cooper, James Mallen and Art Jergenson. John Oliver Engh, son of Knud and Emma Larson Engh, passed away Tuesday morning, May 27, 1980 at the Belmond Nursing Home, where he had lived since 1977. He was born November 13, 1891 near White Willow in Kendall County, Illinois and he was 88 years, 7 months and 13 days of age at the time of his death. In January, 1904 he moved with the family to Boone Township in Wright County and he received his education in rural schools in that area and spent a year (1911-1912) at Humboldt College, Humboldt, Iowa. He was married to Alma Luella Stole February 3, 1913 in Norway Twp., Wright County and they made their first home on a farm in Kossuth County. In 1918 they moved to a farm south of Kanawha in Wright County and lived there until 1967. John was baptized in the Christian Faith in Platville Church in Kendall County, Illinois and was confirmed in St. John's Lutheran Church of Kanawha. He served his church faithfully in the area of the Sunday School and Church Council. He was always ready with a helping hand in the community. In addition to farming for many years he was employed for 28 years as a road maintainer in Wright County. In 1968 John and Alma retired from the farm and moved to their home in Kanawha. And in 1971 John moved to the Sunset Manor Apartments. Mr. Engh is survived by 1 daughter, Mrs. Richard (Elaine) Tesdahl of Clarion, Ia.; a daughter-in-law, Mrs. James (Arlene) Kirsch of Elgin, Ill.; 7 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; 3 brothers, William of Newton, Ill., Emory of Kanawha, Ia. and Olin of Eagle Grove, Ia.; 1 sister, Mrs. Cecil (Ruth) RoJohn of Ft. Dodge, Ia.; a host of relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Alma in 1969 and his son Carroll in 1965. Wright County Monitor --- Clarion, Iowa June 5, 1980
