Read More	John Oostenink Passed Away Saturday Last week Tuesday morning Mr. John Oostenink was severely burned when gas exploded in his face as he was attempting to smoke bees from a tree which he and Mr. Tony Imanse had just cut down. Mr. Oostenink's face, hands and chest were burned to the extent that some of the burns were classed as third degree. Although the burns were known to be severe, Mr. Oostenink seemed to be getting along quite well until Thursday noon when his condition took a turn for the worse. In addition to the burns, his return to good health was hindered by improper action of the kidneys. The family was called to his bedside Thursday afternoon. His condition was not improved early Friday morning but as the day progressed, he seemed to be somewhat better. Saturday a turn in the other direction was again evident. At approximately 2:30, Saturday afternoon, Mr. Oostenink passed away. The last three days he had been in an unconscious state of mind the major part of the time. John Oostenink was born August 3, 1892 on a farm near Middleburg. His life was spent in that and the Hull vicinity. On August 7, 1918 he was married to Cynthia Kooistra while serving with the army at Rock Island, Ill. To this union were born five children, all of whom survive with the widow: Martin of Bellflower, Calif.; Berdena, Mrs. Albert Brummel, of Denver, Colorado; Vernon, now serving with the Armed Forces in Korea; Herman and Nelson at home. Three grandchildren also survive. Mr. Oostenink's parents and one sister preceded him in death. Funeral service for Mr. John Oostenink were held on Tuesday, August 12, 1952, from the home and from the Christian Reformed Church of Hull. Rev. Wierenga and Rev. Kooistra were in charge of the services. Rev. Kooistra reading from I Corinthians 15:35 through 58 at the home and also giving a short message at the church. Rev. Wierenga based his text on Job 19:25a, "I Know that my Redeemer Liveth". A mixed quartette composed of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Koele, Mrs. Ed Scholten and Mr. Jim Heynen sang "When Peace Like a River". The audience sang "Some Day the Silver Chord Will Break". Burial was made in Hope Cemetery with the Wegman-Koele Post of the American Legion paying Military respects. Pallberaers were: William, Henry, Dick and Gerrit Oostenink, Martin and John Kooistra. Kraai and Van Etten Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements. Sioux County Index 1952-08-14.
