Mr. East served in the Army Air Corp during World War II. He was a member of American legion for 52 years, the VFW for 17 years and the 40 & 8 Club. Read More	Born in Sutherland NE., Nov. 15, 1923, to James Henry and Bessie Mae (Homan) East. He passed away Jan. 6, 1997 in Evergreen CO after a long illness, at the age of 73. Mr. East served in the Army Air Corp during World War II. He was a member of American legion for 52 years, the VFW for 17 years and the 40 & 8 Club. He had a life-long love for rodeos & country music. John was an honest and dedicated man with a love for all mankind. He was a rancher, a hardware operator, a carpenter, and worked in the water well business. He was creative, quick witted and always willing to lend a helping hand...he never saw a stranger. He is survived by his wife, Vivian, son and daughter-in-law, Melvin and Brenda East of Gothenburg NE; daughters and sons-in-law, LaVaughn and Mel Shipman of Curtis NE, Monia and Wayne Biehn of Longmont CO, Midge Hansen of Ogallala NE, and Lolita and Robert Reinwalt of Invale NE; ten grandchildren and three great grand-children. He was preceded in death by his parents and a grandduaghter. Full military Rites were conducted by the Garden Countr VFW Post #5379. Funeral services were held Jan., 10, 1997 at Grace Lutheran Church in Lewellen with Rev. LeRoy Frank Officiating, assisted by Rev. Keith Pfeifly. Burial was in the Ash Hollow Cemetery under the directions of Holechek Funeral Home.
