Read More	JOHN CONWAY MUSCATINE, Iowa - John P. Conway, 79, of Muscatine, passed away on Tuesday, June 23, 2015, at Unity Point Hospital - Muscatine, after a battle with cancer and heart disease. Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, June 26, 2015, at St. Mathias Church, 215 West Eighth Street. The Reverend Troy Richmond will officiate. Burial will take place in St. Mary's Cemetery. A time of food and fellowship will be held at Gannon Hall following the committal service at the cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m. on Thursday, June 25, 2015, at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home with a Rosary Prayer Service at 7 p.m. at the funeral home. John was born on August 10, 1935, in Muscatine, the son of Philip and Lucille Harper Conway. He graduated from Muscatine Catholic High School in 1953. He enlisted into the US Army for two years in 1958. He served in the ballistic Missile program in El Paso, Texas, for six months and was transferred to the same ballistic missile program at Anchorage, Alaska for 18 months. His interest in those programs was because of his mechanical abilities. He was honorably discharged in 1960. When he came home from the Army, he worked on and managed the family farm for 58 years. The farm was originally settled in 1893 by John C. Harper who was his grandfather. John P. Conway was named after his grandfather. John was skilled in working with engines and motors. He took good care of the farm livestock. He was skilled at growing crops. He enjoyed the outdoors. Time spent visiting with friends and neighbors were important to him. He liked all of the things a typical farmer would like. He especially enjoyed all of his nieces and nephews and their families. He liked spending time with them and keeping up with their lives and activities. John will be missed and remembered by his siblings, Janet Godwin and husband, Robert, Dennis Conway and wife, Joyce, and Mary Flagel; seven nieces and nephews; 17 great nieces and nephews; and six great-great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Philip and Lucille Conway; one brother-in-law, Bill Flagel; his paternal grandparents, James and Eleanor Conway; his maternal grandparents, John C. and Sophia Harper; and by his great-grandfather, William Harper, who was one of the early settlers in Muscatine County in 1843.
