Pallbearers will be John’s brothers: Tom, Jim, Brian, Joe, Pat, and Bob. Visitation will be held in the church on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. with Rosary at 6:45 p.m. and Scripture service at 7:00 p.m. The family is requested to meet at the church on Saturday by 10:30 a.m. for a prayer service. John was born on March 23, 1943, at Beresford, SD, to Thomas and Ann (Glidden) Devine. John graduated from Wakonda High School in 1961 and then served in the United States Navy for four years. He attended South Dakota State University and graduated from USD-Springfield with a BS in Industrial Arts Education. On September 2, 1967, John married Lori Meiners at Dedham, Iowa. After receiving his degree, John coached and taught Industrial Arts at Sisseton High School. In 1974, John and Lori planted roots in Watertown where John taught welding at the Multi-District School. John joined the Energy Industries team in 1977 and eventually led the buy-out to form Benchmark Foam serving as president until the purchase of Enercept of which he was president until his retirement. Following his retirement, John realized his lifelong dream of ranching. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and was involved in various capacities. As a couple, John and Lori served many years in the Engaged Encounter and Marriage Encounter programs. He was a member of the American Legion, Kiwanis, the Cattlemen’s Association and the "morning coffee crew". John touched many lives through his involvement in church, work, and community activities. John was a visionary and a maverick, but most importantly he treasured his faith, family and friends. John is survived by his wife, Lori, of Watertown, SD; five children: Michael and his wife, Amie Devine, of Wasilla, AK; Julie and her husband, Kim Johner, of Grand Forks, ND; Catie Devine of Watertown, SD; Anne Devine of Pittsburgh, PA; and Madeline Devine of Watertown, SD; 12 grandchildren; six brothers: Tom and his wife, Chris Devine, of Watertown, SD; Jim Devine of Wakonda, SD; Brian and his wife, Mary Ann Devine, of Lake Jackson, TX; Bob and his wife, Kathy Devine, of Sioux Falls, SD; Joe and his wife, Nancy Devine, of Bend, OR; and Pat and his wife, Kathy Devine, of Litchfield, MN; eight sisters: Kathleen and her husband, Joe Karol, of Glendale, AZ; Joan and her husband, Wayne Berglund, of Sandy, OR; Barb and her husband, Lenny Tischler, of SantaFe, NM; Diane and her husband, Chip Hoeg, of Fargo, ND; Margo and her husband, Tom McCue, of Wakonda, SD; Mary Jean and her husband, John Ruane, of Brookings, SD; Donna and her husband, Dave Tarver, of Mukilteo, WA; and Anne Devine of Vermillion, SD; as well as three other children dear to John’s heart: Steve Houle, Cristian Vela, and Ashley Allen.
