Muilenberg, 93 Laid to Rest on Friday Funeral services were held Friday, January 11, 1963, at 1:00 p.m.at the home and at 1:30 p.m. from the First Reformed Church, for Mr. John P. Muilenburg, who passed away at his in Hull last Tuesday. The Rev. Nickolas Rozeboom officiated and interment was in the Middleburg cemetery. Kraai funeral home of Hull was in charge of arrangements. Muilenburg, son of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Muilenburg was born September 27, 1869, at Pella, Iowa. At two years of age he came with his parents to Sioux County and settled northwest of Orange City, Iowa. He and his mother came by train as far as the rails then went, to Le Mars, while the rest of the family came by covered wagon in the first emigration of Dutch settlers from Marion County in the earliest white settlement of this area. He was married to Marie Van Steenwyk in March, 1891, to which union seven children were born, namely: Cynthia Vander Zwaag of Hull, Iowa; Mae (Mrs. Dick J. De Cook) deceased; Ethel (Mrs. Wm. Van Oort) of Ireton, Iowa; Nellie Mouw of Sioux Center, Iowa; Bernie of Sibley, Iowa; and Johanna (Mrs. Ryndert De Groot) deceased. Mrs. Muilenberg preceded her husband in death. One daughter died in infancy. There remain to mourn his death, which took place January 8, 1963, five children, 11 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. For the most of his life Mr. Muilenberg farmed south and east of Hull, Iowa. For many years he was a faithful member of the Grace Reformed Church of Middleburg, where for a time he served as a deacon. Since his retirement Mr. Muilenberg moved to Hull, Iowa, where he has been a faithful and interested member the First Reformed Church. Sioux County Index 1963-01-17.
