| Description | : | John was a stone mason, the son of William Park and brother of Thomas, premier gravestone cutters. Before coming to America in 1767 he was hired by the Duke of Argyle to work on his castle in Inveraray, Scotland and in laying out the grounds of the Duke's estate. This work took 7 years! The Duke convinced him through several letters and offers to return to Scotland for more work on the castle, but when finally ready for the passage from Boston, John learned that the harbor was blockaded by the British fleet, and the Revolutionary War had begun.
