Description	:	John Parkhill "Jack" Mead, 86, former Smithland resident, died Wednesday, November 7, 1990, at Colonial Manor Nursing Home in Correctionville, Iowa. He was born September 28, 1904, at Smithland to Clavin and Lillie (Parkhill) Mead. He lived most of his life at Smithland. On March 25, 1937, he married Inez Lloyd March at Council Bluffs. He moved to the nursing home in December 1987. She died October 21, 1988. Survivors include: 3 daughters, Mrs. DeWayne (Sharon) Mead of Brooklyn Park, Minnesota, Greta Rho11 of Woodbury, Minnesota, and Mrs. Robert (Linda) Sulsberger of Smithland; 2 sons, Louis Mead of Emporia, Kansas, and James Mead and his wife, Cindie, of Correctionville; one sister, Gladys Briggs of California; one brother, Clark Mead of Smithland; two step-brothers, Clifford Coon of Sioux City and Ernie Coon of Illinois; twelve grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and many special friends, including, Patrick and Charlene Doyle of Smithland, Melissa Doyle, Amos and Sherry Doyle of Virginia. He was preceded in death by his parents; his step-father; two brothers, Miner and Lawrence and his wife. A Prayer Service was held at 7:30 p.m. Friday, November 9, 1990, at the Willman Funeral Home in Rodney. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, November 10, 1990, at United Methodist Church in Smithland, Iowa, with Pastor Karen Dearchs officiating. The organist, Mrs. Ellen Harbeck, played, "Beyond The Sunset", "Amazing Grace", and "Wind Beneath My Wings". Casket bearers were Bill Mead, Dave Mead, Larry Mead, Kendal Mead, Don Larson, and Earl Mead. Interment was in the Little Sioux Cemetery, Smithland, Iowa, with arrangements by Willman Funeral Home, Rodney, Iowa.
