The worst previous year for traveling on Fulton county roads was 1955 when 10 were killed. Killed instantly at 4 p.m. Thursday when a motorcucle traveling at high speed went out of control and hit a utility pole a mile east of Rochester on the Old Fort Wayne road were: John "Pat" BRUBAKER, 31, Mishawaka, a former resident and driver of the motorcycle, and his cousin, Gary ZIMMERMAN, 8, son of Mr. and Mrs. Forest ZIMMERMAN, LaPorte. Injured fatally was Brubaker's daughter, Teresa [BRUBAKER], 15, who died at Woodlawn hospital two hours after the crash. Police said that Brubaker was going west and was unable to negotiate a curve. The cycle went into a ditch on the south side of the road, traveled 50 feet, struck a fence and went along side the fence 62 feet before striking the pole head-on. The cycle struck the pole with such force that it broke it off at the ground. Brubaker's body was thrown about 12 feet from the cycle and the girl was thrown 31 feet. The boy was found near the back wheel of the motorcyucle. All suffered skull fractures. Robert EBER, R.R. 1, Rochester, told police that Brubaker had passed him shortly before the accident at a high rate of speed. Damage was estimated at $900 to the 1960 Harley Davidson motorcycle, owned by Robert GAMBLE, Rochester, Brubaker's father-in-law, whom the Zimmermans and Brubakers were visiting. Police said the fence, owned by Ms. Elnora PETERSON, sustained about $80 damage and the REMC pole $125 damage. State police and the sheriffs and coroner's offices and city police investigated. Double funeral services will be conducted for John and Teresa BRUBAKER at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Foster & Good funeral home with the Rev. James RHOADS officiating. Burial will be in the I.O.O.F. cemetery here. Friends may call at the funeral home after 1 p.m. Saturday. John BRUBAKER was born July 14, 1931 o Mrs. Othelia PROUTY, Eau Gallie, Fla., and Jack BRUBAKER, R.R. 1, Rochester, and was a driver for the Commercial Motor Freight company of South Bend. He moved to Mishawaka from Rochester six years ago. A U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, he was married Oct. 18, 1947 in Rochester to Geneva M. SLOOP, who survives. Surviving with the wife are a son, John Jeffery [BRUBAKER], 11, the parents; two brothers, Joe [BRUBAKER], Logansport, and Jack T. [BRUBAKER], Van Nuys, Cal., and the grandfather, J. W. BRUBAKER, Rochester. Teresa Jean BRUBAKER was born in Rochester April 10, 1948. She completed her freshman year at Penn township high school this year. She was a member of the Y-Teens and the French club at school. Surviving are the mother; her brother, John Jeffery, the maternal grandmother, Mrs. Robert GAMBLE, Rochester; the maternal grandfather, Edgar SLOOP, Royal Center; the patrnal grandparents, Mrs. Prouty and Jack Brubaker; the maternal great-grandmother, Mrs. Gene SLOOP, Logansport, and the paternal great-grandfather, J. W. BRUBAKER, Rochester. Gary Carl ZIMMERMAN was born in LaPorte Jan. 26, 1955 and was the son of Forrest and Mildred Ann ZIMMERMAN, who survive. Also surviving are a sister at home; the patrnal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Carl ZIMMERMAN, LaPorte; the matrnal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. William GREENE, Rochester, and Harry FOSSOW, Portage, and severl cousins. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Haverstock funeral home in LaPorte with the Rev. M. E. RINKE officiating. Burial will be in the Pine Lake cemetery in LaPorte.
