McMahon Died Of Heart Attack Saturday John Patrick McMahan, 64, lifetime resident of this district, died about 9 o'clock Saturday morning at the farm home three and one-half miles west of Cherokee. Mr. McMahan had been in failing health for the past year and a half. Saturday morning about 8:45 o'clock, a bull broke loose from its pen, and John rode out to the field on a horse to bring it back. When he failed to return Mrs. McMahan went to the field about 11 o'clock to look for him. She found he had fallen from the horse about a half mile from the home. Dr. J.D. Pettet of Pittsburg was called, and he said Mr. McMahan's death was due to a heart attack. Mr. McMahan was born May 4, 1884, in the Maplewood district and has lived there all his life. He was a retired farmer. Was a member of St. Bridget's Catholic church in Scammon. Surviving are the widow, Mrs. Bessie McMahan of the home; three daughters and a son, all living in Pittsburg; Mrs. Margaret Fourmont, Mrs. Thelma Oehme, Mrs. Helen O'Malley, and Mike T. McMahan; also a sister, Mrs. Mollie Lindsey of Cherokee; and six grandchildren. The body was taken to the home from the Brenner chapel in Pittsburg late Sunday afternoon. The rosary was said at the home Monday night. Funeral services were held on Tuesday morning at St. Bridget's church with Father Victor Heithaus officiating at the mass. Interment was in the Cherokee cemetery. ******************** According to his WWII draft registration, he was 5-8, had blue eyes and gray hair, and a light complexion. He was 57, a farmer, and his residence was given as RR1, Cherokee, Kansas.
