He was married to Rita Mae Boeding on December 28, 1963 in Lamont, Iowa. They were blessed with four children; John Jr, Julie, Joel & Jeffrey. They farmed together near Victor until 1983. John then was employed with M & N Construction, Beagle Construction(Owner) in Victor, and later as a grain truck driver for Brooklyn Elevator. During this span, he thoroughly enjoyed running a backhoe, whether doing work for himself or others. John was a member of St. Bridget Catholic Church. He enjoyed fishing and ice fishing in Nebraska and South Dakota; and watching western movies and TV shows. John and Rita for many years wintered in Texas.
