The evening before his death he had been enjoying a game of cards with old friends, apparently in the best of health. His passing was a distinct shock to his many friends. He was born in Luxembourg, June 17, 1853, and came to America with his parents as a small child. He received his early education in St. Mary's school. He followed the occupation of miller prior to removing to his farm in Cascade township 28 years ago. While working as a miller he was employed by Thomas Kingsley in the old mill near the Cascade falls, which figured prominently in the history of Cascade. He was married to Miss Margaret Sauser, April 29, 1885, in St. Mary's church by the late F. X. Fauerstein. Mrs. Streng died several years ago. Surviving are the following sons and daughters: Lawrence and Tony of Cascade, Mrs. Jane Madl and Mrs. Fred Madl, both of Chicago, Mrs. Frank Kremer of Cascade, Miss Adeline Streng at home. Sixteen grandchildren also survive. Preceding him in death besides his wife are four sons: Joseph, a World war veteran, George, Francis, Carl, and one daughter, Clara. Funeral services were held in St. Mary's church Saturday morning at 8 o'clock where a requiem mass was celebrated by the Rev. J. B. Albers, who also officiated at the graveside. Burial was made in St. Mary's cemetery. The funeral was largely attended.
