December 2, 1961 ******** Alton Democrat; October 31, 1908 At his home in Alton last Saturday night at about eleven o'clock Peter Wiltgen departed this world. His death was a shook to his relatives and friends and although he had been sick since Wednesday his illness was not thought to be of a serious nature. An ailment of the heart was the cause of his death. For the past few years his health had been failing. Last Wednesday he came to town from the Matt Herrig farm where he had been engaged in carpenter work and went to his home where he received the final summons. The deceased was born in Luxemburg Europe on March 2, 1850. At the time of his death the deceased was fifty-eight years and seven months and twentytwo days of age. He came to this country with his wife and five children in the year 1885. After their arrival in this country three more children blessed their home. Mrs. Wiltgen died in February 1904 and two of their children died several years previous. The children who survive him are Mrs. Charles Earnest, Miss Mary Wiltgen, Sister Mercedes, Peter and Nic and Tony Wiltgen. All reside in Alton with the exception of Sister Mercedes who lives in Dubuque. All of the children attended the last sad rites which were conducted from St. Mary's Catholic church in Alton Tuesday morning. The remains were laid to rest in St. Mary's cemetery. The deceased leaves two brothers—John of Wilmont Minnesota and Nic of Le Mars. Both gentleman and their wives attended the funeral.
