JOHN PORTERFIELD COE, Treasurer of Athens County, was born in Ohio County, W.Va., Oct. 5, 1842. His father, Silas Coe, was a native of Pennsylvania, and his mother, Emily (Porterfield) Coe, of Ohio. In his seventh year he came with his parents to Athens County, They settling on a farm near Athens, where he lived with them until his nineteenth year. He was given only a
