Description	:	John Posekany was born June 6, 1862, in Tabor, Czechoslovakia. At age seventeen he came to Chelsea with a friend who helped pay the cost of the passage. He remained in Chelsea a short time and then went to Williams, where his sister Mary Pistulka was living. Here he met Josephine Haijsman, whom he married on May 16, 1892. At age seventeen he came to Chelsea with a friend who helped pay the cost of the passage. He remained in Chelsea a short time and then went to Williams, where his sister Mary Pistulka was living. Here he met Josephine Haijsman, whom he married on May 16, 1892. Shortly after they were married, John purchased 132 acres of open prairie land in a sparsely settled area of southwestern Minnesota. His family joined him after construction of the home. The farm had to be repurchased from the government when it was discovered that the original salesman was not authorized to make the sale and could not be found for prosecution. John was also a carpenter, and as the prairie and the town of Seaforth was settled, he built many of the houses and farm buildings in the area. The same design was used on all the buildings. A house had a large kitchen, living room, bedroom off the living room and a pantry off the kitchen. An upper story had two bedrooms and an attic above the kitchen. The attic was sometimes raised and converted to another bedroom. After a few years, the family rented out the farm and returned to Iowa where John clerked in a store in Vining. After two years, they returned to farming in Minnesota and remained there until retirement to Chelsea in 1917. John lived in Chelsea until his death in April 1944 and Josephine until her death in August 1953. John and Josephine had three daughters: Rose (deceased 1966) worked for the McNaU family in Chelsea until her marriage to James T. Benda (deceased 1979). They farmed in the Brooklyn area. Their children are Arnold of Brooklyn, Kenneth of Grinnell, and Alberta Broshahan of Brooklyn. Christine (deceased 1986) taught school in Tama and Powesheik Counties until her marriage to William E. Behounek (deceased 1963). They farmed south of Chelsea until retirement to Belle Plaine. Their daughter Virginia Mulinari lives in Berlin, Maryland. Barbara married Phil Zmolek (deceased 1980) and farmed south of Chelsea, Iowa. Barbara taught in rural schools in Tama and Poweshiek Counties and in Chelsea before her marriage and continued to teach in Chelsea, Tama, Toledo, and Montour after her marriage.
