John Quincy Lockwood, son of John Q. and Charlotta Lockwood, was born near Woodland, Iowa, June 27, 1887, and passed away at the Decatur County Hospital, June 5, 1954, at the age of 66 years, 11 months, and 9 days. He was united in marriage to Gussie Adair, April 18, 1908. To this union nine children were born. Preceding him in death an infant son and one sister Clara Smith. He leaves to mourn his death, his wife, four sons and four daughters: Victor of Garden Grove, Iowa; Madgelene Showers, of Leon, Iowa; Coy Showers, of Woodburn, Iowa; Twyla May Koal, of Clio, Iowa; Junior, of Newton, Iowa; Raymond, of Newton, Iowa; Cleo Fern Thompson of Newton, Iowa; and Max of the home. Three daughters-in-law, three sons-in-law, sixteen grandchildren, three great grandchildren, one sister, Alta Petty, of Woodland, Iowa, one brother, Jake, of Clearfield, Iowa; and a host of relatives and friends. He spent his entire life near Woodland, except ten years in which he was employed at Maytag plant in Newton, Iowa. He had been in ill health the past two years. He was a loving and patient father and loved by all who knew him. He was baptized in the Assembly of God Church in November of 1931. He patiently suffered the past two years not once complaining nor never a burden to anyone. He was tenderly cared for by loving and devoted hands, always putting the needs of others before his own. He was a dutiful husband and father. To know him was to admire him. Johnny has finished his work here and God called him away from all sorrow and suffering. It is lonely for those left behind, but think not of your loneliness but rather think of his joy and happiness. The funeral was held at the Slade Funeral Home June 7, 1954, at two o'clock, by Rev. Roy Donaldson of Princeton, Missouri. Burial in Leon Cemetery.
