Ross, in Washington (Iowa), on Thursday night, March 22d (1916), following an illness of a few weeks with paralysis, were brought to Morning Sun, Saturday, and the funeral services held from the Methodist church, conducted by Reverend Chas. B Hankins. The interment was in Elmwood cemetery. The sons and daughters and their families, and a brother and a sister, Mrs. Roderick, accompanied the remains here. Messrs. H. E. Reece, Nelson, Browning, W. B. Matthews, Anderson, Frank Bower and H. W. Van Dyke, of Winfield, were also here to attend the funeral, the six gentlemen first named acting as pall bearers. J. Q. Ross was born in Brown county, Ohio, February 16, 1851, and was a son of John and Deborah Ross. The family came to Iowa in 1851, taking up their residence in Henry county. Here Mr. Ross was married to Eliza Lee on April 12, 1875. After spending a few years on the farm, they moved to Winfield, where Mr. Ross operated a clothing store for a number of years. In 1909 Mr. and Mrs. Ross went to Texas on account of the former's health. Mrs. Ross died at Corpus Christi, Texas, in 1911. In 1913, Mr. Ross returned to Iowa, and since had been making his home with his children. Four children survive the father: A. E. Ross of Washington, O. E. Ross of Davenport, Mrs. E. T. Van Dyke, of Keithsburg, Mrs.. Harlan Foster of Mt. Pleasant. One brother and two sisters also mourn his death: Thos. Ross of Marsh, Mrs. M. E. Ross of Morning Sun, Mrs. M. R. Irwin of Cedar Falls, Mrs. J. L. Roderick of Nora Springs. The Morning Sun News-Herald, 30 Mar 1916
