Description	:	Mr. John R. Birmingham, one of the best known men in the north-western section of the county, died at the home of his son-in-law, Mr. G. M. Tucker of Monroe, at eleven o'clock Thursday night. Mr. Birmingham was over 87 years of age, and was one of the oldest men of the county. He was born Feb. 14, 1825. For some time he had made his home most of the time with his daughter, Mrs. G. M. Tucker. The remains were buried at Pleasant Hill Baptist church, Rev. Messrs. Tucker. The remains were buried at Pleasant Hill Baptist church, Rev. Messrs. Craig and James conducting the services. Mr. Birmingham was a faithful member of this church and gave earnest support to it. The following sons and daughters survive: Messrs. S. W. Birmingham of Polkton and Joe and Brady Birmingham of New Salem township, and Mesdames G. M. Tucker, Gaston Gaddy, Adam Fowler and John T. Griffin. Mr. Birmingham was a brave and loyal Confederate soldier, a good and kindly man, greatly beloved and especially so by the children.
