Description	:	Obituary The Marshall News-Statesman Marshall, Michigan Wednesday May 13, 1914 Page 3 ---John Hoffman of Homer died at his home in that village at 8 o'clock this morning following a stroke of paralysis which he suffered about ten days ago. Mr. Hoffman had been a resident of Homer since 1865 coming there at the close of the Civil war in which he served for four years distinguishing himself for bravery, and endurance through ten months of imprisonment in Andersonville, Libby and Florence prisons. Mr. Hoffman had been a resident of Homer since 1865 coming there at the close of the Civil war in which he served for four years distinguishing himself for bravery, and endurance through ten months of imprisonment in Andersonville, Libby and Florence prisons. He was a member of the 8th Michigan Cavalry, Co. A. He is survived by the widow, formerly Miss Mary Snider, daughter of John Snider of that village, who is now part 90 years of age. Mr. Hoffman leaves one daughter, Mrs. Arthur Powers, of Homer. Deceased was 68 years of age, and had been in the implement business in Homer forty years. Enlisted in Company A 8th Michigan Cavalry, first being corporal and then sergeant. Was taken prisoner and sent to Andersonville. Was a prisoner for 15 months.
