Steele, the son of John A. and Addie Prosser Steele, was born near Hampton, Nebraska on January 1, 1893 and died at Sun City, Arizona on May 1, 1977, following several months of failing health at the age of 84 years and 4 months. He spent his childhood in the vicinity of Aurora, where he received his education in the public schools. During World War I, he trained with the Company H. here in Aurora and later enlisted in the Army of The United States, where he attended Officers Candidate School and after he was Commissioned, he served with the Army in Europe. After he returned from service, he was employed by the Iowa-Nebraska Light and Power Company. After a short time with that firm he went to St. Joseph, Missouri where he was employed as a salesman for an electrical supply company. In 1929 he moved to St. Louis, Missouri where he was employed in another electrical supply company. After World War II he went on his own and starts a sales representative firm for large electrical supply companies. In 1961 he retired and moved to La Mesa, California and in 1968 moved to Sun City, Arizona where he has since resided. On March 1, 1920 he was united in marriage to Naomi Scott at Seward, who has been with him in his endeavors and accomplishments since. John was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Sun City. He was also a member of Charity Lodge of Masons in St. Joseph, Missouri and the York Rite of Masonry and of the American Legion. His parents, one brother, George Steele and sister, Margaret had preceded him in death. Those who survive are his wife, Naomi; brother, E. Lee Steele of Aurora; sister, Mrs. Ethel Welsh of Seward; several nieces and nephews and other relatives and many close friends who will cherish his memory. Contributor: Don (46558676)
