Description	:	John R. Zediker, 73, of Mapleton died Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2004, at Maple Heights Nursing Home in Mapleton after a seven and one half year battle with cancer. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Peter's United Church of Christ in Mapleton, with the Rev. Bob Fritzmeier officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Armstrong Funeral Home in Mapleton. John Robert Zediker was born March 27, 1930, on a farm near Mapleton, the son of Racy J. and Lillian (Muckey) Zediker. He attended country school Cooper 6 and graduated from Mapleton High School in 1948. He was married to Dorothy M. Ketelsen on April 8, 1951, at her parents' home near Mapleton. The couple farmed through 1963. The family moved into Mapleton, where he started working at Brown Auto Supply. He became the manager in 1965 and purchased the business in 1984, naming it John's Auto Supply. The business was sold in 1995, when the couple retired. After retirement, he worked part-time at Martin's Hardware in Mapleton. He had many interests including, aviation, World War II history and anything mechanical including Farmal H. Tractors. He liked ballroom dancing, square dancing, camping with friends and for the past 25 years, they enjoyed riding their touring motorcycle. He was a member of St. Peter's United Church of Christ and served on the Mapleton City Council from 1974 through 1979. He had been a member of Mapleton Flying Club, Western Iowa Cycle Riders and the Retread Cycle Club. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Dorothy; three children and their spouses, Bruce and Linda Zediker of Carpentersville, Ill., Marla and Ken Fries of Benkelman, Neb., and Owen and Celia Zediker of Mapleton; nine grandchildren, David Zediker of Holland, Mich., Ricky, Robby and Racy Zediker of Carpentersville, Ill., Amber and her husband, Chris Breeden, of Ellicott City, Md., Josh Fries and his wife, Alicia, of Benkelman, Neb., Gabe Fries of Omaha, Jeremy Zediker of Boise, Idaho, and Joe Zediker of Mapleton; a great-grandson, Nino Breeden; three sisters, Caryl Smith of Onawa, Iowa, Shirley Koenigs of Council Bluffs, Iowa, and Harriett Nielsen of Mapleton; and a sister-in-law, Wanda Zediker of Mapleton.
