Mr. Buckingham passed away on Wednesday, August 1, 2012 at his home. He was born April 15, 1928 in Hanover, Ohio to the late James Enlow and Florence (Ponser) Buckingham. John was a 1946 graduate of Hanover Toboso High School. A veteran of the United States Army, John faithfully served his country in Korea with the 732nd Infantry from 1950-52, holding the rank of Master Sergeant. He married Maxine Johnson on March 14, 1953 in Richmond, Indiana. He was employed at Pure Oil Refinery, Southgate Arms and Buckingham Painting. John loved life to the fullest and treasured every member of his family and all of his friends. He was a member of the Licking Valley Church of Christ. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Maxine; children, Sue (Bruce) Bush of Heath, Kathy (Randy) Baughman, Sandra (Michael) Drake, John P. Buckingham, Laurie (Glen) Montgomery and William Buckingham, all of Newark; twenty grandchildren;thirty-three great-grandchildren; sisters, Doris Carroll and Ruth Ann (James) Clark, all of Newark; brother Robert (Wilma) Buckingham of Apple Valley; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, James Buckingham; sister, Mary Ellen Buckingham; brother-in-law, Harold Carroll; daughter-in-law, Sharon Buckingham; one grandson; one great-granddaughter; and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Wheeler and Fern (Conard) Johnson. Friends may call from 10-11:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 4, at the funeral home, 1249 Hebron Road, Heath. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Central Ohio.
