He was born Feb. 9, 1906, at Norfolk to the late Thomas and Anna Crotty. He attended school at Norfolk and was a veteran of World War II in which he served in the U.S. Army from June 21, 1943, to Nov. 13, 1945, and was in Europe. He was employed 42 years by the Chicago and North Western Railway. He was a member of the Brotherhood Railway Car Men of America., American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He married Hattie Haase on Sept. 15, 1948, at Norfolk. Surviving are his wife, one step-son, Melvin Haase of Valentine; three grandsons; and one great-grandson. Also surviving are nephews and nieces, including Bill Geary, Jack Geary and Mabel Ray, all of Madison, and Mrs. Jerry (Jane) Neely of Norfolk. He was preceded in death by one sister.
