Mr. Fischer died February 1 at home at the age of 86. He was born May 6, 1918 in Bismarck, North Dakota, to John C. and Barbara (Hermes) Fischer. Fischer of Penn Valley will be conducted today, February 4, 2005 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Grass Valley. Mr. Fischer died February 1 at home at the age of 86. He was born May 6, 1918 in Bismarck, North Dakota, to John C. and Barbara (Hermes) Fischer. He was an Eagle Scout and captain of his high school basketball team. After graduating from high school, he moved to California where he was employed by Bank of America. He married Dariel June Fraser in 1940. He then began his thirty-year employment with Firestone Tire and Rubber Co. as District Credit Manager, retiring in 1973. After moving to Penn Valley in 1974, he opened Fischer's Firestone in Grass Valley, continuing as owner until his death. His affiliates include Knights of Columbus, Cousin Jack's Lion's Club, and Grass Valley Elks. He was most happy while traveling in his motor home, fishing, or watching a King's basketball game. He is survived by his children; John R. Jr. (Doris) of Sutherlin, OR., Russell K. (Linda) of Grass Valley, Lynn A. (Patrick) Gerving of Grass Valley, Stephanie L. (Michael) Kuehner of Rough and Ready, step daughters Cynthia Lockley (Dennis Chesters) of Maryland, Judith A. (John) Bodine of Ramona, CA; grandchildren, Scott P. Gerving of Arcata, CA., Brian John (Katherine) Gerving of Loleta, CA., Richard and David Spencer of Alaska, Benjamin and Steven Thompson of Grass Valley, Lia Ochoa of Sun City, CA., Jason (Connie) Ochoa of Ramona, CA., and six great grandchildren. He also leaves a sister, Alice J. (Alex) Muggli, of Glen Ullin, North Dakota, and an aunt, Sister Anaclete Fischer of Watertown, South Dakota, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen, in 1977 and his sisters Elinor Kemnitz, Lucille Heinle and Florence Bullamore. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Patrick's Church building fund or a charity of the donor's choice.
