Downing, former Adams county man. who died at his home in Gresham, Neb., at 4:30 o'clock Wednesday afternoon of pneumonia. Mr. Downing had been ill since last Friday. A son of R. H. and Rebekah Downing, he was born in Camp Point township on April 12, 1851 and spent a great part of life in the Golden vicinity. On February 3,1874. he was married to Miss Henrietta Hughes, to which union nine children were born, all of whom survive. Mr. Downing's wife died in December of 1915. Surviving are Mrs. Inez Bromburg of Rockford; Asa, Otho and John Jr. of Council Bluffs. Iowa; Mrs. Ethel Adams, of Nebraska; Ray H. of Seattle, Wash.: Mrs Laura Jones, of Portland, Oregon: and Ora and Oscar, both of Gresham. Neb. Three brothers also survive; William O. Downing, of York, Neb.: Charles A., of Bowen. Ill., and Warren H., of Kirksville, Mo. Four sisters are living; Mrs. Nancy E. Smith, of Camp Point. Ill.,; Mrs. Laura Whitford, Miss Florence, and Miss Cora Downing, all of Golden. Ill.
