He was born January 5, 1936, in Jefferson County, Arkansas, to Jess and Era Welch Ashcraft. He retired in 1999, from Nekoosa paper mill, in Ashdown, after 20 years of service and then was the owner and operator of Ashcraft Stump Removal. He was a member of Sulphur Springs Baptist Church, a perpetual member of the Masonic Lodge and OES, White Sulphur Masonic Lodge #122, and Union Chapter #40. In the Masonic Lodge he had received the highest award "The Pillars of Solomon". He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Edward Lee Ashcraft. Survivors include his wife, Ann Ashcraft, whom he married on December 24, 1955, in the Sulphur Springs United Methodist Church in Pine Bluff; children, Chris Ashcraft (Kathy) of Pine Bluff, Alan Ashcraft (Rita) of Pine Bluff, Archie Ashcraft (Leanne) of DeQueen, Lois Ann Merrell (Joe) of Pine Bluff; eight grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to White Sulphur Lodge #122, c/o Tommie Wright, 8602 Benmor Drive, Pine Bluff, AR 71602 or to the charities of choice. Visitation will be Monday, February 10, 2020, at the Sulphur Springs United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall, 9210 Sulphur Springs Road, 5 to 7 p.m. Burial will be a private Masonic graveside service.
