Cruse, 73, Succumbs Here. John Robert Cruse, 73, a native of Kentucky, died at the home of his son, Earl Cruse here last night at 7 o’clock. He had lived in Chico for the last two months, coming here from Santa Cruz to attend the funeral of his son’s wife. He became ill shortly afterward and remained in Chico until his death. Survivors are the widow, Mrs. Mary L. Cruse and the following children: Mrs. J.F. Bookwater of Nebraska; Mrs. Maud Thomas of Hanford; Mrs. S.L. Wright of Wasco, Calif.; Mrs. W.H. Smith of Glendale, Calif.; James Cruse of Sebastopol; John Cruse of Santa Cruz and Earl Cruse of Chico. Twenty-one grandchildren and nine great grandchildren also survive. The funeral will be arranged by the Westfall Funeral Home. ~~~ 73-year-old John Robert Cruse was interred, per the Chico Cemetery Association Records, in the plot noted, on December 31, 1928. Private funeral services for John Robert Cruse, who died here at the home of his son, Earl Cruse, Friday, were held at 2 o’clock yesterday afternoon at the Westfall Funeral Home. The Rev. W.L. Mellinger officiated and burial was in Chico Cemetery.
