Captured at the Battle of Winchester VA on 19 September 1864; held POW at Libby and Danville prison camps in VA and at Salisbury NC before paroled. Promoted Brevet Major for gallant action at Battle of Winchester and Brevet Lt Col for gallant and meritorious service during the war.
