Adella St., was dead on arrival at Ottumwa Hospital Friday at 7:13 p.m., following a heart attack at his home. Mr. Arter was an employe of John Morrell & Co. for 25 years prior to his retirement in 1961. The son of Henry O. and Josie Russell Arter, he was born at Atwater, Ill., on Dec. 5, 1896, and had resided in Ottumwa for the past 38 years. He was a Navy veteran of World War I. The son of Henry O. and Josie Russell Arter, he was born at Atwater, Ill., on Dec. 5, 1896, and had resided in Ottumwa for the past 38 years. He was a Navy veteran of World War I. He was a member of Willard Street Methodist Church and of Ottumwa Lodge No. 16, A.F.&A.M. His marriage to Dorothy Dunning, who survives, took place Aug. 4, 1927, in Ottumwa. He also leaves a son, John R. Arter Jr. of Ottumwa; two daughters, Mrs. Margaret Rader of Washington, Iowa, and Mrs. Roberta Boyd of Ottumwa; ten grandchildren; a brother, Albert Arter of Springfield, Ill.; and two sisters, Miss Irene Arter of Urbana, Ill., and Mrs. Annabelle Phelps of Jacksonville, Ill. One son died in infancy. The service will be Monday at 1:30 p.m. at the Johnson Funeral Chapel with the Rev. David Ash of the Willard Street Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery.
