Read More	From the Skidmore News, July 10, 1924, page 1: "John Barrett Dies Sunday Afternoon John Barrett, a pioneer of Nodaway County, died at the home of his son, Robert Barrett, Jr., Sunday afternoon at 6:30 o'clock. Death was due to an attack of Brights disease. 'Uncle John' as most everyone called him, has been in ill health for several years and a turn for the worse came a few days before death. He had lived near Skidmore for almost 50 years, making his home, since the death of his second wife in 1918, with his children. Mr. Barrett was an upright man, a public spirited citizen, a friend of the church and was ever ready to lend financial and moral support to any worthy cause. John Barrett was born in Sugar Grove, Pa., May 20, 1846, died July 13th, 1924, age 78 years, 1 month and 23 days. He spent his early life in Warren County, Pa., coming to Nodaway County, Mo., in 1875, where he engaged in farming. He was married to Sarah Margaret Roberts Feb. 26, 1884, and to this union three children were born, John R., Robert W., and Lucy M., all of whom survive him. His wife died August 28, 1909. Several years later he married Miss Nellie Younie of Sugar Grove, Pa., who preceded him to the other world a few years later. Besides his family he leaves three sisters, four brothers, four grandchildren and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at the Robert Barrett home, four miles west of Skidmore Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock in charge of the Rev. C. H. Sauceman and Rev. J. J. Cokely. He was laid to rest between his two wives in the Masonic cemetery in Skidmore. The services at the cemetery were in charge of the local Masonic Lodge of which he was a faithful member. The pallbearers were: John R. Barrett, Robert W. Barrett, Floyd Barrett, Fred Barrett, Charley Barrett, and Vernon Ward."
