Description	:	His mother is Agnes WYMORE McMains, who died in Owen County, Kentucky about 1824, In 1825 he then moved with his father and siblings to Clarke County, Indiana, where he remained until 1836, when he came to Cedar county, Iowa, where he married Martha Jane Goddard in 1837. He remained in Cedar County eight years; he then returned to Indiana, remaining about three years, and then came to Mahaska County in 1847. he owned 676 acres of land, held offices of township trustee and school director. After the death of Jane in 1858, he afterward married Rachel HAWLEY, widow of Worthington Chidester, Jan. 1, 1861; she was born in New York to parents Erie Hawley and Hannah J. ENGLE. Johns children with Jane are; Elizabeth, Ann, Mary E., and Isaiah McMains. His children with Rachel are; Oliver, Ida, Erastus, and Robert who, enlisted in the 8th Iowa Infantry, and was killed at Corinth. John has a son William that was born about the time of Rachels death, but I can't with certainty connect him to her.
