Thompson, an old resident of Fairmont was brought here Wednesday noon. He had died in Oak Nebraska, Monday, April 7. Funeral services were held from the home of Mrs. Elda Treadwell that afternoon at three-thirty, Rev. W.B. Kline officiating. Interment was made in the Fairmont cemetery. John Sampson Thompson was born at Mercer, Pennsylvania, May 23, 1847, and died at Oak, Nebraska, April 7, 1919, at the age of seventy-one years, ten months and fourteen days. He was next to the youngest of a family of nine children, and is the last to leave us. At the early age of sixteen years, he enlisted in a Pennsylvania regiment, serving until honorably discharged. In 1867 he came with his parents to Monroe, Iowa, where he was married October 17, 1872 to Miss Susie A. Curry. to this union four children were born: Nancy A. Davis, Loup City, Nebraska; Nina M. Dossett, Keene, Nebraska, James Z. Thompson Omaha, Nebraska and Francis P. Thompson the youngest, who preceded his father in 1903 at the age of ten years. In 1877 Mr. Thompson with his family, came to Nebraska, locating five miles east of Fairmont, where he lived for about twenty years. Though several changes have been made in location, Fairmont has always been considered the family home. He has been a member of the Fairmont Post for over thirty years, never changing his membership and always requesting that they attend him when his last long sleep should come. For the past several years he has been in failing health, although he never gave up even at the last. At the time of his sudden and unexpected death, he was with his granddaughter, Mrs. Johnny Meyer at Oak, Nebraska. Though more ill than usual, the past week, he was up and around, being up for breakfast Monday, the day of his death. He leaves to mourn his loss, his wife; three children; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren, besides a number of other relatives and a host of friends. Those who attended the funeral from out of town were Mrs. S.A. Thompson and Mrs. C.F. Dossett of Keene, Mr. and Mrs. B.D. Davis of Loup City, Mr. and Mrs.. J.Z.
