Born in Bridgewater, he was the son of the late John H. and Evelyn L. (Hirtle) Hiltz. John is survived by Shirley (Hatfield) Hiltz, his wife of 63 years; son, Fraser, Vancouver, B.C., daughters, Sharon Riggs, Waverley, Leslie Bierman, Longmont, CO. He is fondly remembered by six grandchildren; brothers, Dave, Ingleside, Ont., Michael, Orangeville, Ont. John attended Acadia University, graduating with a BSc in ’52. He joined the Royal Canadian Navy in ’51, retiring as a LCDR in ’75. He then started a second career in Real Estate Appraisal, retiring 12 years later in 1987. John’s special loves were golf, sailing, curling and travel. He and Shirley enjoyed many years of exciting travel over most of the world’s continents and then he enjoyed Major League sports on TV from the comfort of his armchair. A Royal Canadian Legion Tribute will be held on Friday, December 9 at 1:45 pm with the memorial service at 2 pm. and then a reception and visitation will follow, all in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow Street, Truro, Rev. Paul Worden officiating. Spring interment in Robie Street Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Baptist Church, Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of choice.
