Description	:	When John Schott Lanning was born on August 29, 1843, in Pittsford, New York, his father, Benjamin, was 33 and his mother, Magdalane, was 30. He married Frances Corrine Tarbox on August 9, 1865. They had ten children in 22 years. He died on April 10, 1906, in Yankton, South Dakota, at the age of 62, and was buried there. Read More	When John Schott Lanning was born on August 29, 1843, in Pittsford, New York, his father, Benjamin, was 33 and his mother, Magdalane, was 30. He married Frances Corrine Tarbox on August 9, 1865. They had ten children in 22 years. He died on April 10, 1906, in Yankton, South Dakota, at the age of 62, and was buried there. Civil War Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient. Born John S. Lanning, he served in the Union Vay as a Landsman on board the "USS Magnolia". He was awarded the CMOH for his bravery during the attack on St. Marks, Florida on March 5 and 6, 1862. His citation reads in part "He served with the Army in charge of Navy howitzers. Throughout this fierce engagement he made remarkable efforts in assisting the transport of the gun. His determination in standing by his gun while under enemy fire, was a credit to the service to which he belonged". His Medal was awarded to him on June 22, 1865.
