Read More	OBITUARY Oelwein Register July 9, 1913 The death of John S. McQueen at the home of his parents on North Frederick street early Wednesday morning closed the career of a promising young man. Five years ago he underwent an operation for appendicitis and never fully recovered his health. His demise ended a long and valiant fight for life, as his last illness commenced twelve months ago when he was stricken with ulceration of the stomach. Under the best medical attention he seemed to improve until a few months ago when tuberculosis set in and the long struggle ended in his peaceful death Wednesday morning. And so he has labored and suffered gloriously until the last, the dearly beloved son, brother, friend and religious teacher. Zealous member of his church and a tireless worker for the Master. The meaning and significance of his life's work, however, were not always visble to the eyes of the people. John Siegel McQueen, son of Webster and Victoria McQueen, was born at Hazleton, March 15th, 1883, and died at Oelwein, July 2, 1913. His parents removed to Oelwein when he was but small boy and he received his early education in the public schools of Oelwein. His family afterwards moved to Waverly and he engaged in railroad work with his father. In 1901 he came with his parents to Oelwein and has resided here ever since. He was baptised at Waverly into the Reorganized Church of Latter Day Saints by elder J. E. Sutton in the year 1896. In the year 1911 he was ordained a priest of the Oelwein branch of Latter Day Saints and so remained until the time of his death. As long as health and strength would permit he officiated in the office to which he was called and upheld the banner of the cross as he taught and preached the word of God. He leaves to mourn his loss, a father, mother, one brother Ben, of Oelwein. A brother Roy preceded him death 15 years ago, three sisters, Mrs. Earl Gay, Rockford, Illinois; Mrs. John Powers, Oelwein; Miss. Berrnice McQueen, Oelwein; a grandmother, Mrs. Anna Shippy and a host of other friends and relatives who all keep a memory full of love and graditude toward the deceased. __________________
