W. Horst of St Louis, Missouri on September 6. His remains were sent here to the home of another daughter, Mrs. Cecil Jackson and the funeral was conducted from the Methodist church, on Thursday, September 9, with Rev Wm Boyers in charge. Interment in the Edgar cemetary. (sic) Obituary John Simpson McNichols was born at Newcastle, Ohio, June 24, 1846. He died at the home of his daughter, Mrs,Edna (sic) Horst, at St Louis Missouri at the ripe age of 80 yeas. He lived at the place of his birth until seventeen years of age, at which time he enlisted in the Civil War, in Company I, 9th Ohio Cavalry, and served for a period of four years. After the war he engaged in farming for two years, after which he moved to Clark county (sic), Iowa, and reengaged int (sic) the same occupation. December 25, 1870 he united in marriage with Mary Ellen Duncan at Lacell, Iowa, who preceded him in death ten years ago. They lived at Lacell a number of years then moved to Colorado where they lived two years. They then moved t o (sic) Edgar where they lived for many years. After his wife's health broke he was ever faithful in his loving care for her and continued to care for her tenderly until she passed away. Prior to his death he had made his home with his daughter, Mrs Edna Horst at St Louis, Missouri, where he mustered out of service in this world and passed to the great camping ground above. Twelve children were born to Mr and Mrs McNichols, three of whom have passed on before the father. Those remaining are: Mont McNichols, of Mullen, Nebraska, Mrs Nellie Jackson of Edgar, Nebraska, Willie McNichols and Mrs Edna Horst of St Louis, Missouri, Mrs Ethel Banker of Litchfield, Nebraska, Mrs Millie Sensle and Mrs Mattie Corl of Hartford, Arkansas, Pearl McNichols of Los Angeles, California, and Milton McNichols, of Brancroft, Kansas. Mr McNicols enlisted in the service of his country in early life and he also enlisted in the service of his Lord and Master and for many years was a devout member of the Baptist church.
