Description	:	Death of John Sladek The death of John Sladek occurred at the family home west of Verdigre, near Walnut, Saturday, March 22, 1924. His death was attributable to a chronic illness, which had continued for a period of more than two years, during which time all available science and loving care was bestowed without result in restoration of health. Read More	Death of John Sladek The death of John Sladek occurred at the family home west of Verdigre, near Walnut, Saturday, March 22, 1924. His death was attributable to a chronic illness, which had continued for a period of more than two years, during which time all available science and loving care was bestowed without result in restoration of health. Mr. Sladek was born in Dodge County, December 25, 1881. In 1885 he, with his parents, moved to Pierce, at which place his father died. In 1902 John Sladek came to Knox county with his mother and begun farming operations near Venus, where after a three year period, his mother died. He was married to Julia Kolina, February 25, 1908, to whom was born seven children, Ladik, Helen, Steve, Cecelia, George, Marie and John, who with the widow, survive the deceased, as do also four brothers, Anton and Lou of Creighton and Frank and Joe of Verdigre; a brother, Michael, preceded in death at Schuyler several years ago. Two sisters also survive, Mrs. Albert Masat of Verdigre and Mrs. Anna Shefl of Winnetoon. The deceased was a splendid citizen, respected by his every acquaintance, a good friend and a good neighbor, a splendid father and a benevolent provider. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Catholic Union of Verdigre, of which lodges marched in the funeral procession. The funeral was held at St. Ludger Catholic church in Creighton, Tuesday morning at 10:30, conducted by the Rector, Father Windolph. A large concourse of friends assembled at the funeral mass to participate in the services and pay final respect to the deceased. Interment was made in St. Ludger cemetery.
