Mr. Slonecker was born in Westmoreland county, Pa., Feb. 5, 1822, since which time he has lived in Harrison county, Ohio, Fulton county, Ill., from which he removed to McDonough county, Ill., in 1847, and then to Seward county, Nebr. in 1875. Mr. Slonecker was born in Westmoreland county, Pa., Feb. 5, 1822, since which time he has lived in Harrison county, Ohio, Fulton county, Ill., from which he removed to McDonough county, Ill., in 1847, and then to Seward county, Nebr. in 1875. He united with the Christian church in Vermont, Ill., when about 24 years of age, and to his last days had lived a consistent Christian life. Jan. 10, 1850 he was married to Emily Henderson, and they had lived happily together for more thant fifty-seven years. Four children were born to them, Russell of Beaver Crossing, William of York county, Mary (now Mrs. Chas. Gladwish) and Johnny, the first three of whom with their widowed mother survive, and were with him at the end. There are also four grandchildren living. The last six weeks of his life were spent in brave, patient, heroic endurance of terrible suffering. At the last he rested peacefully and quietly passed away. A short time before his death he said, "I'm ready to go--go home to rest. I wish the Lord would take me." Funeral services were conducted from the Presbyterian church in Tamora at 2 p.m. Wednesday afternoon by Rev. E. M. Sayles, pastor of the Christian church at Beaver Crossing. The services were largely attended by many old neighbors and friends who had known the deceased for so many years. Interment was made in the north Seward cemetery.
