He was the husband of 1) Sarah Cooper Rose and 2)Hannah Cooper.John and Sarah had seven children: George Albert; Jane Rose Sowash Clark; Elizabeth Bertice Sowash Bonner; Amanda Marie Sowash Strangeway; John Rose; William Henry; James Kirk. John was a farmer in Claridge, Westmoreland County Pennsylvania. He stood as one of the most substantial citizens of his part of the county and was honered and respected by the entire community.He remained on the home farm until 1864 when he enlisted in Co. "C" 207th Pennsylvania Heavy Artillary and served until the close of the war, whenever he was honorably discharged. After his return to civil life, he relocated on a farm of 165 acres and was very successful in agricultural pursuits. He was a prominent figure in the community and served his township as assessor; collector; justice of the peace. Per John's death certificate, he was born Jan 6 (not June) and died 10 Oct 1915.
