| Description | : | In 1852 he came to the United States. After a two month voyage that landed in New York, he went to Buffalo and then to Ohio, where he remained for three years. He then went to Chicago and from there to Galena, where the railroad ended. He walked from Galena to Clermont, Iowa, arriving in June 1855. He remained in the Clermont area until March 15, 1864, when he settled on a farm near Postville Junction. He married Lorinda Savage on 02 June 1858. They were the parents of 8 children. Another child was Lucretia Starkey Ammons. |
