He retired in 1944 and lived in Marion up until the time of his passing. He was preceded in death by his wife, Eliza, who died on May 11, 1958, also 3 children, two sons and one daughter. Also four brothers and two sisters preceded him in death. His surviving family of 3 sons and 4 daughters are Theodor of Parker; Sarah (Mrs. Ervin Rist) Centerville; Paul of Hill City; Johanna (Mrs. Rex Kraemer) of Parker; Olga (Mrs. Maurice Krekula) of New York Mills, MN; Olinda (Mrs. Leon Stark) of Freeman, and Emil of Egan, SD; 14 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and one living sister, Katherine Seib of Fresno, CA.
