Description	:	John Stephenson was born in Taswell county, West Virginia, March 17, 1833, and died at his home, three miles south of Delta, March 1, 1902, aged 68 years 11 months and 12 days. He was married to G_____ (unreadable) Utterback on February 5, 1857. To this union was born eight children, three of whom preceded their father to the silent land. He served, in the army of the Lord 38 years, as a faithful member of the Church of Christ. A large audience gathered at the M. E. church at Hayesville (his former home) to pay their tribute of respect to the memory of one whom they had learned to love and honor, after which the body was tenderly laid to rest in the Pennington cemetery. Farewell father, friend and brother, until we meet in that land where death never comes and where farewells are never spoken.
